Nikka Whisky

Nikka Whisky is another prominent Japanese whisky producer, founded by Masataka Taketsuru, often referred to as the “Father of Japanese Whisky”. Taketsuru traveled to Scotland to study the art of whisky-making in the early 20th century and returned to Japan with his newfound knowledge and a Scottish wife. In 1934, he established the Yoichi Distillery on the northern island of Hokkaido, which is renowned for its rugged terrain and similar climate to Scotland.

The Yoichi Distillery is where Nikka’s story began, and it remains one of the brand’s most iconic locations. Inspired by the traditional methods of Scottish whisky production, Taketsuru crafted Nikka whiskies with a dedication to quality and authenticity.

Over the years, Nikka expanded its operations, establishing the Miyagikyo Distillery in 1969. Located in the Miyagi Prefecture, this distillery is known for its more delicate and fruity style of whisky compared to the bold, peaty character of Yoichi whiskies.

Nikka’s legacy continues to thrive, with its whiskies winning numerous awards and accolades on the international stage, solidifying its reputation as one of Japan’s premier whisky producers.
